Celebrating the life of Thuy “Judy” Thi Do, a woman of joy, resilience, and love.
Thuy “Judy” Thi Do passed away peacefully in the arms of her son, surrounded by her loving family, at Parkwood Institute in palliative care at 11:20AM on September 22, 2025, after a sudden and devastating diagnosis of glioblastoma.
She was the beloved daughter of Hang Thi Nguyen and Hong Van Do, and a devoted mother to Thanh Binh Andy Le, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Judy was also a cherished mother-in-law to Mary Rose Espena. She will always be remembered for her unconditional love, kindness, and unwavering support. She was a mother who never judged, always encouraged, and constantly looked out for her family’s best interests.
As the eldest of five siblings, Judy was the guiding light of her family. She helped care for her younger brothers and sister and kept the household together during their formative years, setting an example of diligence and excellence through her education and work ethic.
She is survived by her mother, Hang Thi Nguyen, her son, Thanh Binh Andy Le, her siblings: Huong “Tony” Do, Hoa “Chantelle” Do, Thuan “Fuji” Do, and Thanh “John” Do, and will be deeply missed by her many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends across the world.
In 1979–1980, she and her family fled Vietnam, becoming refugees. Between the ages of seven and twelve, she lived in a refugee camp, where she learned Cantonese alongside her sister. These early experiences shaped her independence, empathy, and resourcefulness.
Coming to Canada as a young girl, Judy embraced her new home with determination and grace. Despite the challenges of learning English as a second language, she excelled academically, quickly earning a reputation as a diligent and intelligent student. Her journey into adulthood was one of ambition and perseverance.
Her first career path was as a hairstylist, a skill she maintained throughout her life - always ready to cut or color hair for family and friends. In 2000, she moved to Connecticut, where she pursued her education at Sacred Heart University. While working tirelessly to support herself - even mastering the art of sushi-making to pay for school - she studied accounting and graduated with honors in 2006.
Judy eventually became a Certified Public Accountant and achieved senior leadership roles, including serving as Chief Finance Officer for several companies. She was highly respected for her extensive knowledge of both U.S. and Canadian accounting.
A superb cook, Judy was known for her remarkable lobster recipe and her love of Vietnamese cuisine, especially fish, shrimp, and lobster - the bigger, the better. Her home was always open and welcoming; no guest ever left hungry. Friends, neighbors, and her son’s companions were treated not only to her cooking but also to her wisdom, humor, and generosity.
In 2007, Judy returned to Ontario and settled in North York, where she lived with her son until 2024. She later moved back to London in 2025 to care for her mother, showing once again her devotion to family.
Judy lived a vibrant and joyful life, always finding happiness in the simple and meaningful things. She loved cooking meals that brought people together, watching Sailor Moon and other anime, and dancing Zumba or salsa with her usual energy and grace. Whether it was a tennis match, a quiet fishing trip, shopping adventures, or karaoke nights filled with laughter, she embraced every moment. Her greatest joy, however, was her garden—a place of peace and pride, overflowing with fruits and vegetables she loved to share with family, friends, and neighbors. She delighted in watching her plants flourish, often amazed when they grew to extraordinary sizes.
Beyond that, Judy was also a loving grandma to Andy’s dog, Tootsie, who she never missed to walk at 7 a.m. each day before going to work, and to Blue the cat, who she spoiled endlessly with food and playtime. And through it all, her contagious laugh—instantly recognizable and impossible not to join in—remains one of the brightest memories she leaves behind.
Her favorite flower was the orchid, her favorite color red, and her favorite food was lobster.
Judy’s life was filled with love, kindness, and resilience. She touched countless hearts with her laughter, her empathy, and her unwavering strength. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She will be forever remembered and forever loved.
