Sam Waytowich: Lifelong Blackhawk, First-Round Pick — Drafted Right to Heaven

Sam Waytowich was one of those rare people whose presence could fill a room before he even said a word. He had a warmth that drew people in, a kindness that made people feel at home, and a humour that could lift any mood. He lived his life surrounded by the people he loved, and they loved him right back.

He was loud in the best way- full of life, full of love, always the centre of any gathering. There was nothing quiet about Poppa, he was bold, hilarious, magnetic, larger than life and impossible not to love.

Family was everything to him. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather who never missed a chance to remind his family how much they meant to him. His home in Port Elgin was a gathering place. It was full of laughter, stories, music, and the smell of something great cooking. Everyone was welcome, and everyone left with a smile (and maybe a slight hangover).

Sam had a quick wit, a huge heart, and a love for life and his people that never faded. Whether he was playing his guitar, watching the Blackhawks crush the Leafs, or telling a story that made you laugh until you cried, he had a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable. My God, we miss him so much.

He will always be remembered for his warmth, generosity, absolutely ridiculous stories, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him. Sam leaves behind a legacy of love that continues to be felt in every laugh, crazy story, song, and memory shared in his name.

We love you so much Poppa. You were truly one of a kind.
