It is with profound sadness and regret that we announce on October 13th, 2004 Rachel Macaylee Turner, 22, succumbed to her injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle. Born in Toronto on December 10th, 2001 to her loving parents Susan and Leon. Joined two years later by baby brother Nathan and two years following that by baby sister Lauren. The three of them did everything together. They all shared a love for the beach, the zoo and Lynn Shores where they fed the birds. Always an animal lover, Rachel adored her cat Jax and dog Piper.
Rachel attended Balmy Beach, Glen Ames and Malvern CI, where she thrived academically. Along with starting the Business Council and playing hockey and lacrosse, she discovered her love for travel on a school trip to Japan.
Upon graduation from Malvern she attended Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo to pursue a degree in Business Administration with a co-op option. She also minored in political science. Rachel wanted to make the most of her university experience and she joined many club’s ad activities. Her favourites were Might Hawks where she worked with young adults with developmental difficulties gain employment, and the Minor League Summer Baseball League better know as MLSB. She loved the last summer she spent in Waterloo as one of the Commissioners of the league.
Following graduation from Laurier, Rachel decided that she wanted to travel again before embarking on her career. It was during this time that she met her soul mate Matt. They instantly hit it off and decided that they would take a chance on each other and embark on the trip of a lifetime to Australia and Southeast Asia for 6 months. This was the best decision of their lives. Their love for each other was obvious in every picture. Rachel came home from the trip the happiest she has ever been.
Rachel had made so many changes in her life and was planning her future with the love of her life Matt. Along with studying for her GMAT’s so she could get her MBA, she was focused on getting people to interact more and spend less time on social media. She understood the evils of social media and how destructive it can be to young people. She wanted to change the world by bringing back society to more human interaction.
Rachel was predeceased by her grandparents Judy and Gordon.
Survived by her adoring grandparents Cecelia and John; her aunts and uncles Leila and Ray, Anne and Bill, Sheila and Tom, Brian and Cheryl and Julie and Grant; her cousins Matthew, Meagn, Eric, Braden, Carly, Ryan, Chloe, Isabella, Reid, Ella and Kai.
Rachel was an intelligent, kind, caring, thoughtful and selfless soul. Her final selfless act was signing her organ donor card so that five families could be saved. We are so immensely proud of you and our love for you will never fade. We will miss you daily.
