Lifetime of Love

Carolyn McCowen Countryman, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Carolyn was born in Mount Vernon Washington on May 7, 1943, and quickly moved with her family to West Texas. The daughter of a railroad track maintenance supervisor, she moved through the little towns of West Texas like Post and Justiceburg, before eventually settling in Lubbock to graduate from Monterey High School.

Although life led the family away from Lubbock, West Texas stayed in her heart, and Carolyn shared stories of growing up in the small Texas towns, going to school in one-room schoolhouses and learning to avoid rattlesnakes when riding around on her bike.

She met the love of her life soon after, Ray Countryman. From the moment she first walked in the room, Carolyn caught his eye. Their first date turned to many more, and soon the couple was married on July 30, 1961.

Carolyn and Ray made their home in Lubbock, sharing her love with every person who crossed her path. More than once, Carolyn opened her heart and her home to many young people.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Irene McCowen; her father, Allon McCowen; and her brothers, Eddie McCowen and Joe McCowen.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Ray Countryman; son, Justin; daughter, Leslie Neher and husband, Kenny; son, Jason Countryman and wife, Melissa; son, Jared Countryman and wife, Olivia. Her 8 grandchildren; Kassi, Kalli, Justin, Jr., Dakota, Cameron, Connor, Ashley and Zoe. Her 7 great grandchildren; Walter, Gunnar, Remington, Kenly, Wrenley, Wesson, ILA and another on the way; and her brother, Bobby McCowen and wife Yvonne.
