Eugenio “Blue” Cantu

Eugenio “Blue” Cantu, 66, of Mercedes, Texas, passed away on May 17, 2025. Born on October 9, 1958, in Mercedes to José Regino and Alejandrina L. Cantu, Blue was a beloved brother to Maria G. McGee, Jose Jesus Hernandez, Jose Antonio Cantu, SanJuana Sellers, and Refugio Cantu.

Blue is survived by his two children, Eugenio Jose Cantu and Alexandra Vasquez, and his cherished grandson, Vicencio Vasquez, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Family meant everything to Blue. He had a big heart and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones—always putting others before himself and striving to do right by them. His presence was a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and affection, especially to his many nieces and nephews, to whom he was endlessly loving and generous.

Blue loved unconditionally and without judgment. His love was fierce, pure, and always grounded in understanding. He also carried a deep and abiding love for God, a faith that shaped the way he lived and loved those around him.

Whether offering life advice or sharing a laugh, Blue had a unique way of making people feel seen and valued. Known for his playful spirit, his elbow-nudges followed by an enthusiastic “Kill! Kill!” and his booming “Hi mijo/mija!” were expressions of his deep love and warmth. Those moments, loud and joyful, were unmistakably Blue—genuine, passionate, and unforgettable.

To know Blue was to know a true friend. He had a rare gift for connection; whether you had known him for five minutes or a lifetime, he welcomed you with open arms. No matter where he went, he lit up the room. He was the life of the party, full of laughter, stories, and that unmistakable spark that made everyone feel like family.

He lived, loved, and laughed in a way that was truly one of a kind. And as he’d say—JBE… if you know, you know.

Eugenio “Blue” Cantu leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
